India has finally done what should have happened decades ago โ cleaned up 29 complicated labour laws and replaced them with 4 simple, modern labour codes. Effective 21 November 2025, this is a long-pending reform that brings trust, transparency and dignity back into the system.
For years, workers and employers have lived inside a maze of rules, forms, inspections and outdated paperwork. It created fear, friction and very little protection. With the new codes, the direction is finally correct.
The most important change is the inclusion of gig and platform workers.
For the first time, millions of people who keep India running โ delivery agents, drivers, security guards, construction labour, household workers, freelancers โ will come under a formal social security net. This is not a small step. This is a big shift in mindset.
Second, portability across states.
A workerโs benefits will now travel with him. Identity is digital, not tied to one location. This gives flexibility, mobility and true economic freedom.
Third, paperwork is replaced by digital.
